- eg. gain disadvantage on attack rolls
- eg. penalty to skill checks or saving throws

Make a character more vulnerable to certain damage or effects
- eg. take 5 extra damage from fire attacks
- eg. acid damage is doubled
Debilitate
Place negative conditions on characters
- eg. make them blind
- eg. make them laugh uncontrollably
